Mondays with Brigid: Flood Victims Still Need Our Help

One of my volunteers, a local math and physics instructor named Virginia Roberts, helped coordinate a clean-up event to help some of the people whose homes were damaged by the recent heavy rains. Members of my campaign and I were eager to pay forward the volunteer efforts we receive. So Sunday morning, we headed out to Southeast Austin to property just off Bluff Springs Road to help with the clean-up.

Read about our time volunteering Sunday and what you can do to help after the flip.

Mondays With Brigid: Like a Broken Record

When I am speaking with voters on the phone, in their homes or at community events, property tax appraisals are always at or near the top of their concerns. Like a broken record I have been consistently educating and advocating for property tax appraisal reform. Just like I have for the past 25 years, I have taken the lead on this issue by being the only candidate in the race to take a firm stance on appraisal reform. Learn more after the jump!

Because Brigid isn't just interested in being elected but also being an effective leader, we will be publishing a blog each Tuesday on that weeks highlights from the Commissioners Court to keep you up to date on what's going on in Travis County government.

This is a report on some of the items the court takes up each Tuesday and not representative of Brigid's take on the matter.

This past weekend, I did both!

A Victory for Austin Workers

We want to thank the city for doing the right thing for the hard working laborers of Austin! Last night the Austin City Council approved new economic incentive rules, bringing a new level of fairness to deals made with companies wishing to move to Austin. With the city of Austin giving SO much public money to big companies, it is only right those companies pay their employees a living wage. Congratulations to all the organizations and individuals who have been fighting to bring living wages to the city.

Unbelievable

Today I was the only candidate for Travis County Commissioner Precinct 2 that had the courage to speak at the Commissioners Court about the proposed construction of highway 45. Unbelievably, the Travis County Commissioners Court ignored the protests of myself and many others and forced a vote on the proposed construction of highway 45. A vote taken without several key pieces of information.
