STOP the Double Decker Toll Roads over Lady Bird Lake
Rally this Saturday, May 2 @ 10:30am
Roberta Crenshaw Pedestrian Bridge - Under Mopac
(near Austin High School on Stephen F. Austin Blvd)
The toll road authority has doubled its plans and is now pushing to build FOUR TOLL LANES on S MOPAC from Cesar Chavez to Slaughter Lane, including a double-decker toll bridge over Lady Bird Lake & Zilker Park with a flyover next to Austin High School. Their plan will expand MoPac to 12 lanes! (By comparison, I-35 has 8 lanes!)
This plan pours a firehose of toll road traffic on Cesar Chavez, which is already at capacity. Rather than solve traffic problems, their plan creates more congestion in the heart of our downtown, on the shores of our beautiful Lady Bird Lake. One reason behind this damaging plan is to turn Mopac into I-35 West—their plan is to connect I-35 to Mopac via the controversial proposed Highway 45 SW. (The US Fish & Wildlife agency recently warned that Highway 45 could harm Barton Springs!).
If you love Austin and want to help protect Lady Bird Lake, Zilker Park, Barton Springs, the hike/bike trails, Austin High and our Downtown – be at the RALLY on Sat, May 2, 10:30.
This toll road plan is by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA). CTRMA has the ability to scale back their plans and protect our community.
